Our Story

Moving to Canada can change almost everything around you — the weather, the streets, the people and even the way you shop. But there is one thing that rarely changes: your taste buds remember home. For many Africans living in Canada, a familiar drink, the aroma of a favourite spice, a Kenyan sausage or a snack from childhood can instantly bring back memories of family, friends, celebrations and life back home. Food is more than something we eat; it is a connection to who we are and where we come from.

For Moses, Founder and CEO of Jikoni Joe Canada, this connection inspired a simple question: Why should enjoying the taste of home be so difficult when you live in Canada? Many Africans travelling back home return with bags full of their favourite foods, spices, drinks and snacks. Unfortunately, not everything can simply be packed into a suitcase and brought through Canadian borders. Some products may be restricted, require declaration or simply be impractical to carry. And once the suitcase is unpacked, the craving for those familiar flavours doesn’t disappear.

That is where Jikoni Joe Canada comes in. We are creating a convenient way for Africans across Canada to rediscover the products they know, love and miss. From Kenyan favourites and iconic African drinks to sausages, spices, snacks and other carefully selected products, our mission is to make the familiar easier to find. We want every visit to Jikoni Joe to feel a little like discovering a piece of home — without the long journey, the heavy suitcase or the uncertainty of what you can bring across the border.

But Jikoni Joe Canada is not only about Africans who miss home. It is also an invitation to discover Africa. Africa is a continent of extraordinary flavours, traditions and culinary stories, and we want to introduce those experiences to Canadians, food lovers and anyone curious about something different. Every product has a story, and behind every taste is a culture, a community and a tradition worth discovering.

We believe that living in Canada does not mean leaving your culture behind. You can build a new life while still enjoying the flavours that shaped your old one. You can raise children who grow up in Canada while giving them a taste of the foods their parents grew up eating. You can share a familiar drink with friends, prepare a meal that reminds you of home, or introduce someone new to a flavour they have never experienced before.
